DOCUMENTARIES

The Foundation of the Hellenic World is a co-producer of the 5 half-hour documentary series entitled "The Olympic Games in Ancient Greece". This is the largest international documentary production made in our country in view of the Olympic Games in Athens.

The documentary "The Olympic Games in Ancient Greece" combines historical accuracy with the originality of the script and the use of high technology. It covers the history of the Games from the 8th century BC, when they began, until their final elimination in the early Christian years.

Sports events during Prehistoric times, such as the Taurokathapsia in Minoan Crete and the wrestling and boxing events in Mycenaean Greece -which are a precursor to the Olympic Games-, the sanctuary of Olympia and ancient Elis cover a significant part of the series. However, the greater part is devoted to the detailed description of an Olympiad, and in particular to its ritual and program of events.

Modern technology adds its own dimension to this cinematic revival of the Games. All the sports and the way they are played are represented through 2D animations, while the temples and buildings that existed in the sacred area of ancient Olympia are rendered with 3D graphics.
